This is not an edge case, it's a BAD DESIGN with only drawbacks and none of the upsides. I was never taught (at university) a suboptimal design because it's easier to explain, without it being pointed out that the design is suboptimal and an improved one will be explained next after. Were you taught the edge cases of basic examples You do not even understand how it works and what its limitations are, you've just copy pasted it from the Combinators "tutorial" in the forums. The bad latch doesn't handle single-tick inputs. And it doesn't have to be "opposite inputs", it's enough if the input is a single tick long (e.g a pulse from an inserter.). Yes, not in this application, but in many others. You can't feed it opposite inputs that quickly in this application, so that's not an issue. The percent combinators output A=1, and hook into different sides of the latch (so 2 more colored wires to do this.)Īnd finally you need 1 more colored wire from one side of the latch to the power switch to control it. So here you'd need 2 combinators for the latch, and 2 combinators to set those percentages. This gives you the kind of on/off switch that you're used to if you've used the circuit network a little bit, but it's really nice for hysteresis because when you flip the switch on (at, say, 40% capacity.) In factorio you can make them out of two comparative combinators, each set to input A>0 output A=1, with their output wired to the other's input (so 2 pieces of colored wire that don't connect to each other.) These are basically a little circuit that remembers the last signal it got. I feel like an S-R Latch deserves some more explanation: not everyone playing knows machine logic. Look both ways before you cross the tracks. The only significance is life, which leads to the further wisdom. ![]() Every assembler is but a visitor to where it resides.
